Denture coverage

Colorado Medicaid coverage for dentures

Complete and partial removable dentures appear in current benefit summaries, but treatment must still meet clinical, frequency, network, and authorization requirements.

2026 adult limitDentures excluded

DentaQuest states that complete or partial removable dentures are not subject to the adult $3,000 annual limit; related repairs, relines, and rebases may be treated differently.

What the current summaries list

The July 2026 adult summary lists complete or partial removable dentures once every seven years and states that the denture itself is not subject to the adult annual limit. The children's summary lists medically necessary complete or partial removable dentures with its own timing rules.

A fixed bridge and a dental implant are not the same as a removable denture. The current standard adult summary lists fixed bridges and implants as noncovered. Different waiver benefits can have different rules and should be checked separately.

Repairs, relines, rebases, and replacements

  • A repair addresses a broken or damaged appliance; current summaries apply a service frequency.
  • A reline or rebase changes the fitting surface or base and has timing requirements after placement.
  • A replacement before the ordinary interval may require documentation of why the existing appliance cannot be repaired or used.
  • The annual-limit treatment of the denture itself does not automatically extend to every related service.

A typical benefit-verification process

  1. 1

    Clinical evaluation

The dentist examines the mouth, remaining teeth, tissues, and existing appliance and discusses realistic options.

  2. 2

    Records and treatment plan

Required X-rays, charting, images, or narrative documentation support the requested service.

  3. 3

    Authorization and benefit check

The office checks frequency, prior dentures, program eligibility, and whether authorization is required.

  4. 4

    Fabrication and follow-up

Several visits may be needed for impressions, records, try-in, delivery, and adjustment. Coverage for each step follows the approved plan and billing rules.

04

Questions to ask before treatment

  • Is the recommended appliance complete, partial, immediate, or another type?
  • Does the plan require prior authorization, and has it been approved?
  • What does the official record show about my last denture and remaining frequency?
  • Are extractions, adjustments, repairs, or relines separate covered services?
  • What happens if the fit changes during healing?
